Bringing their expertise in special care dentistry, the CDS team held clinics at a Children's Health Centre and provided some domiciliary care.
They supported 19 additional needs patients, with 11 receiving treatments under general anaesthetic at St Bernard's Hospital on the island.
Patients also underwent additional procedures such as ophthalmology screening, cardiac assessments, vaccinations and blood tests whilst under their general anaesthetic, reducing the need for multiple procedures – bringing a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach.
Yee Lee, consultant in special care dentistry from CDS, said, "It has been a pleasure to meet all the patients, their families and carers; staff in the GHA have given us the warmest welcome, and we have been supported by the amazing team. We are honoured at the opportunity to support Gibraltar Health Authority in providing oral care and oral health education for this complex group of special care patients with special care dental needs.”
