Bringing the team together

Clementine Rees Brown reviews this year’s Invisalign Live event.

In London’s centre a mere stone’s throw from St Pauls cathedral, delegates gathered for Align’s biggest-ever UK event situated at the impressive Sancroft venue. The day began with a virtual briefing from executive vice president and managing director Simon Beard, in which he detailed Align’s characteristics of development, the ways they intend to utilise visualisation in the future and the investments being madeinto research and development.

As mentioned the size of the event this year was unsurpassed, and Simon emphasised this was because Align aimed to get all members of the dental team from specialists to dental nurses in the same room. This of course meant courses were provided to suit all manner of topics within the dental team, with a grouping of over 20 experts delivering a variety of experts. To expand on specific topics further, we then heard from specialist orthodontist Guy Deeming and general dentist Beena Harkison. Guy described his positive experiences within the practice using the iTero lumina scanner, detailing how much patients reacted positively to its use of immediate visualisation and photorealism. He added the benefit of the new uploader photo app (useable on patient’s smartphones in order to track their progress) also enables the patient to feel more involved. The six monthly scans with the iTero lumina also help motivate patients to continue wearing their retainer the recommended amount of time per day, as well as being more proactive regarding their oral health and improving gum recession over time.
