E-cigarette marketing

Research led by Minji Kim, assistant professor of health promotion, education, and behaviour at the University of South Carolina, has found that marketing strategies used by e-cigarette manufacturers increase the likelihood of uptake among otherwise low-risk young adults. These widespread but under-researched strategies use psychographic targeting to appeal to new users based on lifestyles, attitudes and values. Kim published the results in Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

Abuse against DCPs rising

In a Dental Protection survey of over 1,300 UK dental professionals, more than half (57 per cent) say they have experienced or witnessed verbal or physical abuse from patients or their relatives in the past 12 months, with 64 per cent of those saying the incidents resulted from frustration over long waiting times for appointments and 59 per cent saying it related to the treatment they received.

Seizure dental damage

Data from the Epilepsy Society shows that half of people who have suffered dental injuries during a seizure have not had them repaired because they can’t afford the treatment. Sixty-nine per cent had broken or chipped teeth, 61 per cent had painful jaws, and 31 per cent had lost teeth.
