Registration open for dental education courses
Published: 19/06/2025
The University of Bedfordshire has opened registration for its Dental Law and Ethics and Dental Education courses.
The Dental Law and Ethics postgraduate certificate (PgCert) gives students the opportunity to study dental care from an ethical, legal and professional perspective. It is the only university-accredited law and ethics course specifically designed for dental professionals.
The part-time course has been tailored to fit around each student’s current work schedule, combining study days with online and self-directed learning. Featuring a wide range of learning and teaching methods including small group workshops, case studies, and presentations, the course is open to all members of the dental team.
This course has been designed to develop the skills and practices of dental care professionals with an interest in legal and ethical dental practice. Course participants can enhance their legal role in dental practice (such as practice managers or clinical leads), indemnity organisations, primary care organisations, or acting as an expert witness to legal firms.
The course is set to enhance student’s capacity to critically appraise both their own and others’ practice in relation to the legal and ethical framework, including the ability to identify and address emerging challenges.
Dental education
The Dental Education PgCert, part of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Education, combines face-to-face, online and practice-based approaches to provide a range of learning, teaching and assessment opportunities. It has been designed to enable students to develop their practice as a dental educator and trainer in both professional practice and educational settings.
Individuals will have the opportunity to build their skills as an educator, scholar and educational leader, able to support the development of dental care professionals, their teams and the wider organisation.
The course has been designed with the diverse educational roles and responsibilities of dental educators in mind, with a focus on the contemporary practice of dental education in both higher and professional education contexts. It offers students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of dental educational practices and broaden their expertise in areas of particular interest.
The Dental Education course is accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators, aligned with appropriate professional standards, and suitable for educational and clinical supervisor. Successful completion of the course will allow participants to apply for the Academy of Medical Educators membership via the fast-track route.
Both courses are set to start in September 2025 at the Bedford Campus, Polhill Avenue.
