NEBDN’s National Diploma has been re-approved by the General Dental Council (GDC).

It meets their education standards, meaning that students who achieve it can apply to be registered and can work as a dental nurse.

The qualification, delivered by individual providers directly approved by the NEBDN, was quality assured by the GDC as part of its duty to protect patients and promote high standards within the professions it regulates.

Julia Frew, chair of NEBDN, said: 'We are delighted that the GDC continues to recognise the NEBDN National Diploma as meeting their requirements. Whilst there are some areas that the GDC have highlighted for further improvement, we had already identified these ourselves and now have plans in place to address them.

'We take very seriously our responsibility to ensure that the individuals to whom we award the Diploma possess the knowledge, skills and competence to be registered as a dental nurse. By upholding these standards, we contribute to maintaining and enhancing patient safety and care.'

The final version of the report is published on the GDC website www.gdc-uk.org
