Dental patients across Scotland could be coming across an extra-terrestrial surprise at their next check-up as one of science fiction’s best-loved faces continues his travels.

Fitted in his custom-made scrubs, E.T. has taken on a whistle-stop tour of Scotland’s largest dental group to help put patients nerves at ease.

With plans to visit more than 30 Clyde Munro practices from Inverkip to Inverness, he has already assisted a number of the group’s dental experts across the country.

Having tried his hand as a receptionist and dental nurse, E.T.’s tour is set to continue into the new year at Clyde Dental in Glasgow.

Tailor-made scrubs were designed by the Clyde Munro team to provide everyone’s favourite alien with a suitable uniform for his three-inch long legs.

Patients who catch a glimpse of him on his travels are encouraged to share their sightings on social media using the hashtag #ETonTour.

Alexandra MacNicol, Marketing Manager at Clyde Munro, said: “We know more than anyone how the dentist can be a scary and intimidating place for many people.

“Each of our practices work really hard to help our patients feel as comfortable as possible. Posing for a photo and having a laugh at E.T. dressed up in his scrubs has helped to brighten up the experience for many of our patients.”

According to NHS figures, one in four people are thought to have some form of dental anxiety.

Statistics show that fear is the main reason adults in the UK are put off seeking dental treatment, often neglecting their teeth until an emergency forces them to book an appointment.

Alexandra added: “With E.T. making a reappearance on TV through Sky’s latest Christmas campaign, seeing his familiar face working alongside our dentists is bound to settle nerves.

“We now have 38 Clyde Munro practices situated across the country so E.T. will have the chance to meet lots of our patients on his travels. We’ve made sure to unplug the phones though in case he tries to make any long-distance calls home.”

On the next leg of his tour, E.T. will visiting the following practices:

Clyde Dental Practice

Uddingston Dental Care

Larkhall Dental Institute

Nanodent Dental

Each Clyde Munro practice is devoted to providing the best dental care, while reflecting the individual needs and character of its community. Its award-winning staff have been recognised for their focus on patient care – particularly when dealing with those who are nervous or anxious.

Founded by Jim Hall in 2015, Clyde Munro Dental Group is an entirely Scottish-based and Scottish-focused dental group with the aim of becoming Scotland’s “local dentist” operating an expanding network of family dentists across Scotland

It now comprises more than 38 practices, with 165 associates (dentists), more than 320 staff and treating more than 300,000 patients across Scotland with further expansion in the pipeline.

Practices which join the group benefit from help with business functions including HR, accounts, marketing, compliance and facilities management – relieving many of the headaches which plague dentists. Group practices also enjoy greater buying power and enhanced access to new treatments and software, as well as superior training opportunities.
