This year’s British Orthodontic Conference is to be held in Manchester at the Midland Hotel, with the DCP programme taking place on September 17 and 18. Over the last 12 months, the British Orthodontic Society has worked in close collaboration with the Orthodontic National Group to deliver a tremendous line-up of speakers over the two days at the British Orthodontic Conference for the benefit of all dental nurses and orthodontic therapists.

A packed programme includes consultant orthodontists Steve Chadwick and Colin Melrose who will be looking at Class III malocclusions in a presentation entitled, ‘The Class III malocclusion: a puzzle locked in a mystery surrounded by an enigma’.

Amin Aminian, specialist in prosthodontics, will be considering the conversations that team members should be having with patients as they approach the end of treatment in his presentation, ‘Shazzam! Finishing the ortho-restorative case: conversations to have in the lead up to debond’. And, Mariyah Nazir will be presenting, ‘Mindfulness in a Mixed-up Millenium’.

Other notable speakers to look out for include Chris Baker, who will be discussing what the pandemic has taught us about effective communication across social media. The programme will also feature Darsh Patel of SmartDontics who will be mapping out the digital orthodontic journey and Yvonne Daily with an update on the overuse of antibiotics.

There are also skills clinics on offer for both orthodontic therapists and nurses. Therapists will be able to take advantage of a session on iTero scanning with Guy Deeming as well as one on bracket placement with Pratik Sharma and Paras Haria. In the world of social media, good pictures have never been more important – Richard Needham will be offering a practical workshop on photography for nurses.

If you are unable to make the event in person, it can also be accessed virtually.
