The Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN) is celebrating the second National Dental Nurses Day in November with another awards ceremony.

Launched last year in honour of those dental nurses ‘who are proud to be dental nurses’, the day is marked to coincide with the first examination that took place on 22 November 1943 – the Examination for Dental Nurses and Assistants.

The categories are:

  • Best Student Dental Nurse
  • Best Dental Nurse
  • Best Dental Nurse Tutor.

And this year, three more categories have been added to the event:

  • Dental nurse manager
  • Long service dental nurse
  • Commitment to charity work – dental nurse

The award winners will be announced on 22 November, coinciding with the celebrations of the National Examining Board for Dental Nursing who celebrate 75 years.

Dental nurses are the largest body of dental professionals on the General Dental Council (GDC) register and yet have only been eligible to register since 2006 and then required to be on the GDC register since 2008.

The Society believes this national event serves as a recognition and celebration of dental nurses ‘underpinning our ethos of dental nurse education, learning, training and development’.
