Practice life at Christmas

2 mins read Workplace issues/your health
How flexible is time off for dental nurses this time of the year? Should you accept gifts from patients? And, what if bad weather stops you getting to work? Eloise Meldrum considers dental nursing over the festive season

The festive season is just around the corner but what does this mean for dental nurses, and how does it affect life in practice?

Days off

In most cases, practices close before Christmas and open soon afterwards, so dental nurses generally have a significant time off over the festive period. But days off should be fairly allocated. Managers might note who does what cover in the Christmas rota and then give the first option of time off the following Christmas to those who worked. Alternatively, making sure everyone does at least one day during the festive period ensures fairness in the team.
