Growing in confidence

Yvonne Ward talks about pushing barriers and broadening horizons

Yvonne Ward started her dental pathway as a trainee dental nurse in 2008 and qualified as an orthodontic therapist in 2017. She says: ‘Ever since 2008, I have not stopped learning – course after course. I just wanted to know more and do so much more. I enjoyed how much this career was so hands on, which pushed me for more. I have always felt shy and never liked to be noticed and, although I hid my lack of confidence well, I would have been crawling with nerves inside.

‘I noticed the more I did and the more I pushed myself, the more confident I became in what I was doing – the knowledge I was learning and, in particular, my confidence with communicating with patients.’
