1. Relish opportunities

Put yourself forward for new tasks, apply for new roles and embark on courses to expand on your skills. Never feel an opportunity is too huge for your capabilities, as you may surprise yourself! When I applied for a lead dental nurse position, most said it was ‘too much too soon’. Nevertheless, I took the opportunity; looking back, this role massively helped my career, including the invaluable lifelong skills learned from it. Know that every role taken in practice will count. At some point somewhere, you will use that skill again; even by having one phone call on reception to converse with patients, you can enhance your communication skills for the future.
