Your PDP will be the foundation to your dental learning. It is to be a working document that you regularly review and adapt. Priya Sharma explains

By now all dental professionals will be familiar with enhanced continuing professional development (ECPD). The requirement for ECPD commenced on 1 August for dental care professionals (DCPs), including dental nurses.

At the heart of ECPD is a professional development plan (PDP). According to the General Dental Council (GDC): ‘The PDP is designed for you to carefully consider your role as a dental professional and what CPD will give you maximum benefit for maintaining and developing your practice in your current and future areas of work.’ This must include the following:

The GDC states that registrants must ensure that learning is linked to at least one of the following outcomes (A, B, C, D). Dental professionals should ideally cover all four development outcomes in each five-year cycle. However, currently this is not mandatory. The GDC outlines the development outcomes as follows:
