I qualified as a dental nurse in 1980 and gained the NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education some years later. I developed an interest in the training of dental nurses and wanted to have more involvement in this area. Therefore, after researching career possibilities I trained as an NVQ assessor, taught a National Certificate course and studied for a teaching qualification. I managed to combine these developments with a family and part-time employment as a nurse, although it was sometimes hard to manage my time! I applied for the DCP tutor position with the deanery in 2008 as the role offered the opportunities I had been looking for.
