What a difference a few years makes

3 mins read People profiles
Vicki Griffiths started the decade as a dental nurse and ended it as a dental hygienist and therapist but with ‘significantly more wrinkles ‘. Here, she shares her journey

I started my training as a dental nurse in 2004 in a local dental practice and qualified in 2006. Shortly after qualifying, I was successful in my application to a dental hospital, where I worked for 10 years – working on oral surgery/oral medicine clinics, general anaesthetic, theatre lists and at a head and neck cancer referral centre.

A dental professional needs empathy, good communication skills and lots of patience. We also need great organisational skills, compassion and integrity. I wanted to be part of a profession that helps improve someone’s quality of life and self-confidence and dentistry ticked the boxes. I also like the diversity – no two days are ever the same.
