Consent is a process that begins when the patient first encounters your practice and it continues throughout treatment. It is an issue of communication and involves not only the dentist but also every team member who gives information or advice to patients. Information on your practice's website and in any literature it provides to patients is also part of its consent process.
The General Dental Council's Standards for the Dental Team (GDC, 2013a) document specifies nine principles of practice for registered dental professionals. Principle 3 states that dental care professionals must:
