When we have conversations with other, it’s not just what we say that has an impact on that conversation. We all have an internal dialogue that is analysing what the other person is saying. Subconsciously, we analyse their tone of voice, body language and facial expression. This article looks to explore this internal dialogue and how we can be aware of how this influence our interactions with others. We will also look at how we can use this knowledge to increase our abilities and skills to enable us to become more effective with our communication.
It is widely published that we interpret a person’s facial expression, tone and body language during a conversation more than the actual words spoken. In previous articles, I have discussed conversations I have had with colleagues where the initial dissatisfaction they are reporting is not actually what another colleague has said, but how they said it and how the recipient of that comment interpreted the conversation.
