I started my career as a dental nurse at Ghyllmount Dental 14 years ago. I actually fell into dental nursing, I was looking for a different career path as a 20-year-old, who didn’t really know what she wanted to do, and 14 years later I’ve experienced a lot from nursing but have so much more to give as an oral health educator.
I am passionate about promoting the national smile month campaign, to spread the message and give everyone the knowledge they need. A few years ago I helped a local school by supplying a toothbrush and toothpaste to each child, after the head teacher told me that not all the children had these at home. In the last two years we have been through a lot, socially, mentally and financially it has been tough. Lots of people of all ages have missed out on care during lockdown, resulting in practices having long waiting lists , so I do feel the pandemic has further increased the need for this campaign and promoting good oral health all round. Dental nurses getting together and spreading the message is so important, to help out those that are in great need, inside and outside of the dental practice.
