Sarah Jones combines life as a dental nurse in Abu Dhabi with her passion for deep sea diving. Here, she shares her life – on land and off – with Julie Bissett

‘Language barriers are a problem but, with my limited Arabic and some limited English from the patients – and a whole lot of charades – we manage to communicate.’

Dental nurse Sarah Jones is 45 and lives in Abu Dhabi and has been a dental nurse since she was 16, qualifying here in the UK.

She says: ‘Two days after I finished school, I was working full time as a dental nurse in the surgery where I had done a week of work experience. I started on £28 a week.’

Since then, Sarah has worked in many areas of dentistry, including special care dentistry, mental health, prison services, paediatrics, oral surgery, prosthodontics and periodontics.
