Opening academic opportunities

Through our previous two articles you have gained some insight into dental hygiene and dental therapy’s history and may have now asked yourself if a move into the profession is for you. This month’s article looks at the academic credentials that you may need to consider if this is a decision you can make now or plan for later down the line.


Entry requirements

Every university will have different entry requirements, but there are a few factors to consider beyond the entry requirements. These may be guided by the ethos of the university, similarity to other programmes, location and their previous experience. Whilst there are some universities that do not offer a route for dental registrants, there may be other routes through their widening participation projects (it may also be good to look for someone you know who is deciding their career path). There are some universities who look to offer opportunities for those not coming from school education but have a real understanding and experience of the richness that current dental registrants offer.
