May 2021 saw the introduction of a World Health Organisation (WHO) resolution that paved the way for improvements in oral health. As a dental nurse you already care deeply about the wellbeing of your patients, but do you realise just how important your role is when it comes to oral health education?
Increasing evidence suggests a strong link between oral health and systemic health. The WHO resolution highlighted the link between oral diseases and “other noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, pneumonia, obesity and premature birth”. It’s clear that education on oral health needs to be improved and who better to be primary oral health educators than dental nurses?
