Sucking on thumbs, fingers, pacifiers or other objects may make babies feel secure and happy and helps them learn about their world. However, as every dental nurse knows, prolonged or vigorous thumb or finger sucking can have a detrimental effect on the development of children’s teeth and mouth. It can be a very difficult habit to break and one that can cause lifelong dental problems.
