Oakham lead dental nurse Emma Clithero recently won Dental Nurse of the Year in the 2019 {my}dentist Excellence Awards.
The 38-year-old was one of more than 500 nominated in the awards run by {my}dentist for 600-plus UK practices. Emma has been in dental nursing for 20 years, spending the last four at {my}dentist. She was recognised for her mentoring and assessing of student nurses, plus undertaking oral health education courses in schools. Emma has also been nominated for Best Dental Nurse in another upcoming awards ceremony. Here, she shares her story…
I started dental nursing when I was 18 years old. I achieved the National Certificate for Dental Nursing in 2001 and the Oral Health Education Certificate in 2002. I always wanted a hands-on job and to make a difference in people’s lives. I find it easy to communicate with a wide range of people and wanted to be able to work within a team. I'd just finished college and saw a job advertised in the paper for a dental nurse position – I knew this would tick all the boxes.
