‘I want to be a dental therapist’

Scarlett Bowker on how dental nursing has opened the door to a new career

With a couple of avenues followed but not pursued (in teaching and nursing), Scarlett Bowker took one look at dentistry and ‘quickly fell in love’. She says: ‘I signed up for an apprenticeship then and there and here I am wanting to go further.’

She explains: ‘Since starting in dentistry, I knew I wanted to develop my role. Dental nursing has opened many doors for me, but my dream job is to be a dental therapist. I am very lucky that I have accepted a place at Plymouth University to (hopefully) start training this September.’

Eager to learn, Scarlett is already looking forward to qualifying. She says: ‘I cannot wait to treat my own patients, and have my own surgery. It’s quite sad, but I’m quite excited to have my own instruments, too! More importantly, I can’t wait to build rapport with my own patients.’
