‘I fainted on my first day as a dental nurse’

Dental nurse Nikita White talks new job jitters with Gaby Bissett and shares her experience of those first nerve-wracking weeks in practice

Being the new starter at work is never easy, particularly when it is your first job. It is a time of new information and new interactions that can take a while to feel familiar. And, when it comes to the dental industry, being the ‘new person’ can be especially nerve-wracking – given that you have a responsibility for somebody else’s wellbeing and comfort.

Nikita White, a 19-year-old dental nurse from Cornwall, has recently ventured into dentistry after waving goodbye to the world of education and now works as a trainee at The Smile Centre in Liskeard. Here, she discusses her first days in the role and the challenges she came across – and how being a dental nurse is the best step she’s ever taken
