Dental nurses are an essential part of the dental team. Aside from assisting in chair side treatment, dental nurses are perfectly placed to help with teeth whitening consultations andprocedures.
Those looking to extend their duties really benefit from courses allowing them to learn more about the whitening process, taking impressions and clinical photographs. This allows you to gain experience, upskill and play a wider role in the clinical team.
After I qualified as a dental nurse, I soon realised my passion lie in aesthetic dentistry. Having previously worked in a cosmetic sales role, I was confident in speaking to patients about the benefits of whitening. I was also comfortable with broaching the subject of whitening with suitable patients. However, I have always followed a similar script that developed with practice. This script always starts with the question of whether a patient has considered whitening treatment to enhance their smile. All these skills can be developed with attending webinars, CPD courses and role play situations.
