We hear from dental nurse Katie Dullaghan who has launched a crowdfunding page to help roll out her innovative oral health education initiative beyond its birthplace of Liverpool

Happy Teeth is an innovative educational company for oral health set up by dental nurse Katie Dullaghan in Liverpool. The project aims to provide ‘exceptional workshops’ to children in schools, targeting parents, families, and organisations, in a bid to empower and inspire positive outcomes – with the overall aim of contributing to the mass improvement of oral health. Katie says: ‘The dental health of the UK's children is in a crisis! The number of children having teeth removed has increased for four years running. With 100 teeth being removed in hospitals per day, it costs the NHS more than £35 million per year. Often, this is due to a lack of education and it can be prevented. Tackling the problem of poor child dental health requires action.’ Having 12 years' experience in dental health, she found that more preventative measures were needed to stop oral health problems before they start. Katie Dullaghan founded Happy Teeth as a way to do this, providing educational workshops to children in schools from Early Years to Key Stage 4.
