...Don’t be that ‘elf on the shelf’ – add some sparkle to your role by positioning yourself for a glowing and successful career, says implant dental nurse Marie Bones

I have been a dental nurse for 23 years and most years I have said ‘New Year, New You?’ I have thought so many times, ‘this is the year I change my career, go back to college to gain the GCSE and A levels I would require to be a hygienist or a practice manager’. Guess what, I am slightly like the ‘elf on the shelf’. I have not moved away from my dental nursing career and am sat writing this article dressed as an elf!

Management training

Our practice has implant dental nurse courses already booked for March and June 2018 and I am hopeful they will be as successful as 2017. I have been asked to look at running other practical courses for dental nurses and I will be investigating what dental nurses want to learn and how I can teach them. I am also hoping to start some management training. There are lots of pathways for dental nurses to further their careers but you have to be determined to push yourself to achieve your aim.
