All GDC registrants, including dental care professionals (DCPs), are now legally required to be indemnified and must declare this when they renew their Annual Retention Fee (ARF) ahead of the July 31 deadline. If dental nurses, hygienists, therapists and other members of the dental team aren't appropriately indemnified, they will not be able to register and will therefore become temporarily unable to carry out their duties until the matter is resolved. Recent GDC changes to indemnity requirements mean DCPs will make their first indemnity declaration this July, through the annual renewal process. They will need an eGDC account to be able to do this. DCPs are urged to check the indemnity arrangements of their employer. MDDUS offers a Dental Practice Scheme to practices of any size (including single-handed practices) where the majority of GDP principals are MDDUS members. The scheme also provides indemnity cover for dental nurses and, in practices where all of the GDP partners/principals are MDDUS members, representation at GDC hearings will be included for dental nurses also.
