This article explores the latest guidance published by Public Health England and the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) (FGDP(UK)) and endorsed by the College of General Dentistry (November 2020). Notably, the NRPB 2001 guidance was withdrawn in October 2020. It focuses on the ‘safe use’ aspect of dental radiography and the principles of good practice.

In October 2020, the second edition of Public Health England and Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK)'s ‘Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners on the safe use of X-ray equipment’ was published. The guidance notes are available to purchase in hard copy or are free online at the FGDP (UK) website.
