Dental nurse power

Rebecca Power works as a dental nurse at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the maxillofacial and orthodontic department. Here, she reveals how her ‘inner geek’ is driving her passion

I started as a trainee at around the age of 18, and was lucky that the practice owner had two surgeries – one was mainly private and the other mainly NHS in Norfolk.

Whilst working full time, I studied for an NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing. After this, I secured a job in a specialised endodontic practice, which I loved so much. It helped me gain more in-depth knowledge about the tooth anatomical structure and morphology.

As the only full-time dental nurse there, I was able to learn the requirements for CQC, COSHH policies and how to run a practice. Next, I moved to London and worked at an award-winning specialised paediatric practice in Richmond, London and stayed there for about three years. This was one of my favourite practices I have ever worked at. They were very supportive with any additional courses I wished to complete and I did my certificates in radiography, conscious sedation nursing, plaque index recording, impression taking and many more.
