What can dental nurses do to ensure their behaviour online doesn't come under fire from the GDC or others in the profession? Leo Briggs offers some tips

Social media has never been so popular. With an estimated 2.2 billion users worldwide, it is little surprise that many dental nurses have social media accounts. But although social media can be a fun and interesting way to communicate with friends and colleagues, there are risks that all dental professionals should be aware of. Two dental nurses recently found themselves in hot water having made inappropriate comments online. The GDC found that the nurses' conduct was impaired following the comments and they were both issued with a reprimand, which would stay on file for 12 months. Such stories act as a reminder of the fact that all your behaviour online could be watched and analysed by others. Indeed, dental professionals should be mindful of the fact that the GDC could be made aware of any comments made online.
