What is it like to train as dental nurses at an award-winning dental practice? We hear from two apprentices…

Charlie and Hannah are training to be dental nurses at Oakdale Dental in Leicester, a family-run practice established for more than 70 years. Here, they share their experience to date.

Charlie

Charlie is 22 and chose to embark on a career in dental nursing, drawn by the attraction that ‘no two days are the same’. She says: ‘I find dentistry fascinating and I really enjoy the surgical side of it. As an apprentice, you learn on the job, and get paid a fairly good wage.’

The upside of training in a working environment she believes is the input she receives from the practitioners with whom she works – ‘I admire all of their work’ – but the challenge is ‘managing my time so I can fit in my coursework’.
