Award-winning dental nurse Bevlee Langan shares the secrets of nurturing a blossoming career

I began working at Blossom Dental Care & Implant Studio in York as a dental nurse in 2013 and, since then, my role within the team has developed exponentially. In addition to the more routine chairside assistance duties, I am also the practice’s lead decontamination dental nurse, senior implant dental nurse and treatment co-ordinator as well as responsible for oral health education in the community. I have even been known to be the resident handyman, and have been found repairing broken-down dental chairs, unblocking sinks and changing lightbulbs!

Pride

I take great pride in my work and strive to do all I can to assist the team and grow our practice. I recognise that being part of a small team means a flexible, proactive approach is necessary and this is something I do willingly – whether this is coming in early and leaving late or simply just taking the initiative to do jobs I know need to be done, without having to be asked to do so. I consider myself a real ‘do-er’, and much of my role has developed organically by my taking responsibility for aspects of the practice I identified as needing addressing, such as:
