Dental hygienist and therapist Sarah Thomson offers a sobering account of her journey – from suspension by the GDC due to her active alcoholism to helping others face their own addictions

Sarah’s story

Once upon a time I was able to answer yes to all of the above. However, drinking for conviviality is but a distant memory for me. I would like to share with you my journey and experience through active alcoholism, and how I believe I crossed the line – from being able to drink alcohol safely to now, when I quite openly call myself an alcoholic. I am an alcoholic who today chooses not to drink because of the consequences of my active phase of alcoholism.
