Dr Louise Belfield is something of a pioneer in her field. In 2013, she became the first dental nurse in the country to achieve a PhD – and she’s now using that expertise as a lecturer in biomedical sciences at the University of Plymouth.
She is one of very few dental nurses to have achieved a PhD. She began working as a dental nurse at South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in 2001, both in general practice and then as a locum in dental specialities. During her time as a locum, she undertook a BSc (Hons) Human Biosciences at University of Plymouth.
