A lockdown legacy

Jocelyn Harding talks about her book collaboration that is raising the bar in oral cancer care – and the need for open conversations with patients.

Dental hygienist Jocelyn Harding has just celebrated the publication of a book she started planning in lockdown.

Care of Head and Neck Cancer Patients for Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists began as a germ of an idea during the pandemic when government rules stopped routine dentistry at practices from March until June 2020.

The goal was to produce a guide for dental professionals to caring for head and neck cancer patients, and has been a collaborative project involving 56 health professionals.

The book aims to help dental teams appreciate the journey undertaken by head and neck cancer patients, focusing on before, during, and after treatment.
