A day in the life of a dental implant nurse

5 mins read People profiles
Dental implant nurse, Hannah Fullerton, shares what her job involves and considers the positive impact this treatment has on the lives of her patients

I start my day by arriving an hour before any patient is scheduled to be seen, which allows me to run through our patient list and see if there have been any changes from the evening before. I also prepare myself mentally for the stage of treatment each patient is in for and how I will be involved.

Preparation

At Dawood and Tanner, we have a suite of five implant treatment rooms within the 16-surgery practice. I am in charge of one but work across all of them, so each morning I ensure it is fully stocked and all equipment is working to prevent any unwanted delay in the day. As we see multiple patients each hour, it would be impractical to set up the surgery for every patient, but I do check I have enough instrument packs and sundriesin the rooms I may be working between. My colleagues also open up and stock their rooms and, before the first patient arrives, we meet to look at our day ahead, updating each other of different stages of treatment or flagging up potential areas of priority. The communication between us is key.
